Consoles

Interactive telnet consoles are opened by the IDE through the agent HTTPS telnet proxy. Do not open telnet:// or raw EVE console ports from the operator workstation.

Per-node Console appears when the node state allows it. Open Lab is the GUI topology, not a serial console. Show Lab Canvas is the local schematic: Lab canvas.

Console tabs can be reordered, split into groups, moved between groups, and resized. A capture tab (capture:{node}:{interface}) stays beside the node console. Closing a capture tab does not stop the capture container.

Node identity in the project is the IaC key (n_7), not the display name.

Status vs inspect

  • Status — runtime summary (running / stopped / …).
  • Inspect — observation snapshot of the live lab. It is not desired state. LOAD labs use inspect as the cached observation; pass refresh only if the lab changed.

Start/stop/wipe drop the client cache; the agent keeps the EVE session alive. You do not need to Reload Window.

AI consoles

The model may run read-only diagnostic commands through MCP console exec. That is operational state. It is not a second configuration-management path. AI MUST NOT filesystem-edit topology.yml / configs/** — use eve_iac_edit / eve_iac_config_edit. Humans may still edit those files in the VS Code editor.

SSH through the console

Prepare OOB SSH, in the current lab's Automation group, writes .eve-iac/oob/ for the current agent session. OpenSSH, Netmiko, and Ansible then use that ssh_config. The SSH user is eve-oob, not the agent login. Nothing listens on the workstation. Stop OOB SSH revokes that generation. It deletes the directory when the agent accepts the revoke or rejects the stored bearer. If the agent cannot be reached, the directory stays. Generate Inventory, in the same group, writes .eve-iac/inventory/ from this extension's proxy. It does not call the agent. Prepare OOB first, or generate stops because ssh_config is missing.
